Ghor Grimnor

Dwarf Knight/Man-at-Arms

Knights serve greater purposes than themselves, usually religious dedications. Law and religion for Rhulfolk are often considered one and the same, with all dwarfs of the Iron Kingdoms acknowledging the law of Rhul, passed down by their Great Fathers. Given this background, our DM has kindly allowed me to play a Dwarf Knight/Man-at-Arms, (even though Knights must traditionally be Human/Iosan).

Helheim is the largest of the dwarven enclaves in the human kingdoms, located amongst the northern districts of the Khadoran city of Hellspass. A large number of young Rhul clans claim estates in Helheim, and with the largest population of Rhulfolk living in the human kingdoms, the Moot of a Hundred Houses maintains a presence in the enclave.
With Rhul law and religion inextricably intertwined, those that are granted the duty of upholding the law of Rhul are regarded with high honor amongst the Rhulfolk. Reporting only to their Grim Judges, the Hands of Helheim are the enforcers of dwarven law. Ghor Grimnor is one such Hand.

Ghor was born into a minor dwarven clan living in the mountains of Drotuhn. As a boy, a brutal clan feud over the mining rites of the mountain territories saw the Grimnor clan all but destroyed. The Grimnor clan would have been wiped from the Rhulic histories - except for the kindness of a travelling tavern keeper, Hilda. Finding Ghor unconscious, Hilda saw Ghor to Hellspass, where he recovered under her watch. He spent his formative years working for her, earning his keep around The Two-Bit Tavern with manual labour. The Two-Bit Tavern was one of the most popular taverns in Hellspass, located just outside the borders of the Helheim district, and catered for a mix of patrons from different racial backgrounds.

Over the long years, Ghor developed a silent and stoic demeanour. He harboured a burning anger at the loss of his clan, and grew restless of his life at the tavern. Through a patron, he heard tell of a secretive underground combat ring within Hellspass. After entering the martial contest, Ghor had found thrill and purpose in the glory of martial combat. Within a few short weeks, he proved himself to be a contender for the Championship - a naturally gifted fighter, strengthened and honed by the years of lifting heavy barrels of ale and working as a bouncer for a busy tavern.
This did not go unnoticed by Hilda, who had come to think of Ghor as the son she never had. The night of his Championship fight, Hilda begged Ghor not to go - but Ghor would not be swayed, and would not dishonour himself by backing down from the challenge. He left, and once again proved his martial prowess in the arena.
That night, Ghor was the victor, and had earned both title and winnings enough so that Hilda could close shop and retire from the hard life of a tavern keep. He came back to The Two-Bit Tavern, to find the Hands of Helheim in force surrounding the tavern. Denied entry to his home and still feeling the rage and bloodlust from combat, Ghor fought his way unarmed through the heavily armoured Hands to find Hilda had been murdered. Members of the Hand seized Ghor, but instead of punishing Ghor for knocking unconscious six of his Hands, the Commander took pity on Ghor and offered him employment as an elite Hand of Helheim.

With the finest armour and weapons, and training amongst the dwarven elite, Ghor now serves the Moot of a Hundred Houses, dedicating his skill in combat to serve his people. He is now also well placed to further his investigations to find those that killed Hilda...
